  • Download & Install jZip
There are tons of zip programs available, some cost money, some are free. I've researched quite a few and after much testing I've opted to recommend jZip as the best option on the market for Windows (currently no Mac version although one is planned for release in 2008). It is free and very easy to download and use, just hit the big green download button to save it to your computer. If you have any problems with this program you can get support at the jZip support forum. Once its downloaded double click on the executable and follow the on-screen instructions.

Make sure when you install it that this 3rd option shown here is checked:~

How to extract files from a single zip
Now your zip program is installed you can open zips you have downloaded (from here or any of the other zillions of websites that have zipped files!).

To do this find the zip on your computer, RIGHT click on it and choose 'Extract Here' - this will put the contents of the zip in the same place as the zip. You can also choose to have the program extract items into a named subfolder or tell it to put the items in a different place altogether using 'Extract To...'

How to extract files from multiple zips at once
This program is my recommendation because it will also open rar formats and 7zip files plus (and this is highly useful if you plan on downloading a lot of zips) it can open multiple zips at once so you don't have to click on each individual zip to open it.

Drag a selection box around the multiple zips you want to open, without deselecting RIGHT click and choose'Extract here' to put the contents in the folder the zips are currently in.
